Local Knights announce charitable giving statistics
Ijamsville/Urbana, Maryland (2/22/2004) -- During 2003 Saint
Ignatius of Loyola Council #11815 of the Knights of Columbus in Frederick County
volunteered 15,500 hours of service and gave $9000 to a wide array of programs
and activities to benefit the Church, the community, families, and youth.
"We are proud of our achievements as we have attempted to strengthen our
Church, our community and come to the aid of those less fortunate." said
Art Korreck, Grand Knight (chief executive) of Saint Ignatius of Loyola Council.
"Still we know we can do better and to do that, we must grow. That is
why we have launched a major membership recruitment effort with the theme
'Building a Better World One Council at a Time' in Frederick County."
Korreck
said. "We are inviting every eligible Catholic man in our Parish to help
us 'Build a Better World' by joining the Knights of Columbus and sharing the
benefits of membership in the Order with his family."
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic family fraternal service organization
founded in 1882 at St. Mary's Church in New Haven, CT, Father Michael J.
McGivney. The Vatican's Congregation for the Causes of Saints recently
accepted for consideration his cause for canonization. Today there are
more than 1.7 million members of the Knights of Columbus in more than 12,000
local councils in the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Puerto
Rico, Guam, Guatemala, Panama, the Virgin Islands, the Dominican Republic, the
Bahamas and Saipan.
The Knights of Columbus was officially established in Saint Ignatius in 1996.
Today there are 129 members in our council.
